Don't Let Race Day Nerves Get the Best of You

Race day nerves are the worst and it feel like there's nothing you can do to get rid of them. Athletic Republic, Pittsburgh knows all about it and has put together some easy tips to calm those nerves come race day.

Prepare Yourself to Succeed

The only reason that you're nervous is because you're worried you won't succeed, so get rid of this thought by giving your body what it will need. Ignore those nervous feelings in your stomach and enjoy a lean but complete breakfast. Remember, when you're halfway around the track and your body needs the fuel, it's too late to start eating.

Think Back to Your Training

Give some thought to the time you have spent training and remind yourself that this isn't the first race you're going to run. Think about your times and how you achieved them, remembering your pace and how often you required further hydration. Keeping your brain focused on the task, in particular the previous completion of it, will help to reduce the nerves.

Relax, Relax, Relax

Easier said than done, we know - but there couldn't be a better answer to stress than to relax. If you feel your nerves building, stop yourself and take some deep breaths. Remind yourself that it's just nerves, nothing more than a strange feeling - don't let it get in the way of your goals.
